HealthWatchSystems, Inc. is a recently formed, medical technology company dedicated to developing and marketing innovative medical devices to address the underserved needs of the large and growing fertility market.
The company's central product is OV-Watch®, a watch-like device which the company believes will provide women with a safe, convenient, reliable and non-invasive alternative to existing products when planning pregnancy. OV-Watch® detects a woman's fertility window by tracking and identifying changes in the chloride ion concentration of a woman's perspiration. The device both predicts ovulation and notifies the user of the full 6-day fertility window. OV-Watch® is clinically-tested and FDA-cleared and is also doctor recommended.
Technology Overview
Initial research into the physiological effects of suspected human pheromones found that it was possible to observe a surge in chloride ions from the perspiration of women occurring approximately four days prior to ovulation, and again around the time of ovulation. This surge was detected using ion-selective electrodes. Researchers determined that the increased sweat gland activity of such women leads to a change in the pH of perspiration secreted onto the surface of the skin. As a result of this research, OV-Watch® was developed. The OV-Watch® is a small wrist-watch like device which contains an interactive microprocessor. The microprocessor works with a chemical biosensor that is housed in the watch-like case, which rests on the surface of the skin. The OV-Watch® monitors variances in ion concentration on the surface of the skin to predict ovulation. The company believes it is the first commercially available fertility prediction device using this technology which informs women four days i n advance when they are going to ovulate.
